The Dance Dance Revolution Pad!

DDR is a game in which people dance to arrows flying upwards on the screen in sync with the beat.  It's incredibly fun, and when playing at the arcade or with a friend, it gets even heavier.  After buying the PS2 game, I decided to build my own pad, because it's a whole lot more fun, and so I could practice freestylin', which is what DDRers do when they get bored with dancing normally. :P  This is a nice addition to my arcade, which will be displayed at Tech Prep in May at school.

I don't have any pictures illustrating my start on the pad, but I can tell you that me and Diego worked on this thing for four days, averaging eight hours of work a day.  But dammit it was worth it!

Here's are a couple pics of the pad near completion:

The down, up, left, and right panels of the pad correspond to the directional buttons on the playstation controller. I will be adding illuminated buttons to the pad to accommodate for X, Triangle, Start, and Select, respectively. :D A lot of work was required to wire the playstation controller circuit board to the pad itself.  The fact that the cable of one controller looked like a wrinkled pen0r didn't help either.  Another problem was that another, better controller didn't have the right circuit board to integrate into the pad.  So what did we do?  Switch 'em, of course!

Switching controller cables was necessary for this project:

The pad took roughly 32 hours to complete, but look at this baby!  I think it's sexy.

All that's left is to stick some arrows on that baby!  Click on these links to see what the arrows look like.

Finally, here's a picture of the TV during DDR as I select a song from the pad. Warning: Crappy quality.
